Trevor Burgess: President & CEO

Trevor is Neptune’s President & CEO. Trevor assumed those roles in December 2019 after purchasing a controlling stake in Neptune in January 2018. Trevor is the Chairman of TRB Development, a diversified residential real estate development and consulting company. Trevor is the former President & CEO of C1 Bank and its bank holding company, C1 Financial (NYSE: BNK). C1 Bank was a $1.7B bank focused on the needs of entrepreneurs with headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida, and had 31 offices throughout Florida. Trevor was named the 2014 American Banker Community Banker of the Year and was recognized as the 2013 Ernst & Young Florida Entrepreneur of the Year in the financial services category.

In 2014 SNL named C1 Bank the 6th fastest growing bank in the country over the prior five years. Mr. Burgess served as a director of C1 Bank since acquiring control of C1 Bank’s predecessor bank on December 3, 2009. C1 Bank was acquired by Bank of the Ozarks in July 2016, generating a 47% return for its IPO investors in less than 24 months.

Mr. Burgess is a prolific financial-technology inventor with four patents awarded and eight more under application. Mr. Burgess served as a Managing Director of Morgan Stanley, where he executed initial public offerings and other capital-raising transactions as an investment banker in the Equity Capital Markets Division. During his nearly ten years at Morgan Stanley (1998 – 2008), he executed over 100 transactions raising over $50 billion for his clients. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1994, Mr. Burgess was a Consultant at Michael Porter’s Monitor Company in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Jim Steiner: Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer

Jim joined Neptune in July 2018 and provides oversight to the company’s finance division, enterprise-wide risk management, regulatory compliance, and Model-as-a-Service platform. Prior to joining the Neptune team, Jim was the Director of Risk Strategy and Innovation at Bank OZK, a $22B bank based in Little Rock, AR, with 250 offices nationwide. Jim also served as the EVP Chief Risk Officer of C1 Bank, where he administered the bank’s corporate governance, risk management, anti-money laundering, and consumer compliance programs.

Jim earned a Master of Science in Risk Management degree from New York University’s Stern School of Business in 2017 and a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University in 2012. Following his graduation from George Washington University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance degree in 2003, Jim spent eight years working in private wealth management at Morgan Stanley.

Brad Schulz: Chief Technology Officer

Brad provided advisory and consulting services to Neptune during the 2016 inception and joined the company full-time in 2018 to focus on making insurance fun, easy, and accessible for both customers and agents alike. Before Neptune, as the CTO of Unirisx, Brad provided rapid product development and direct-to-consumer implementations for diverse insurance customers such as Starr Holdings, AXIS Accident & Health, Ironshore Small Business, Beazley & Roojai.com.

Prior to Unirisx, Brad led the security, development, and infrastructure teams for Bankers Financial Corp – a regional carrier in Florida – where he modernized the technology team and platform along with developing a pilot private flood product.  Before Bankers, Brad held various leadership and management positions with Catalina Marketing Corporation – one of the world’s largest and most successful behavior-based marketing firms.

Brad is a published author & inventor, studied electrical engineering at the University of Louisville, and was the founder of several startups in the long-distance and technology industries.

Jean-Luc Eckstein: Chief Customer Officer

Jean-Luc joined Neptune in 2019 to build its agent and direct-to-consumer distribution platform and to in-house its customer service operations. Prior to Neptune Jean-Luc was a manager at Fortune 500 technology solutions provider, CDW, where he sold software and hardware directly to some of the largest companies in the United States before being promoted to International Client Strategy Manager overseeing a team responsible for cross-border technology sales.

He is a graduate of CDW’s prestigious Emerging Leaders Program and completed CDW’s Sales Leadership Academy. Jean-Luc started his technology sales career at Tech Data where he was a major accounts manager. Jean-Luc graduated from the University of Tampa in 2012.

Matt Duffy: Chief Risk Officer

Matt joined Neptune in July 2021. Matt’s responsibilities include oversight of data science, statistical analysis, reporting, internal audit, and risk management activities. Prior to joining the Neptune team, Matt was the Executive Vice President of Enterprise Technology Solutions at Bank OZK, a $22B bank based in Little Rock, AR, where he oversaw digital process automation, software development, and data visualization.

Matt also served as the VP of Risk Management for C1 Bank. Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Eckerd College and is a designated Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Project Management Professional (PMP), and Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).

Steve Aikens: Director of Marketing

Steve joined Neptune in June 2021. Steve oversees all marketing, communications, and public relations for the company. Prior to Neptune, he was the Vice President of Business Development Support at Bank OZK, working with over 150 offices on marketing and growth strategies. Steve also served as the Vice President of Brand Management at C1 Bank. He graduated from Hofstra University in 2012 and started his career in marketing at the New York Stock Exchange.

Kate Stillwell: President of Parametric Insurance

Kate joined Neptune in 2021 upon the acquisition of Jumpstart, which she founded and continues to lead within Neptune. In her role as President of Parametric Insurance, Kate’s focus is to close critical protection gaps and deploy more private capital toward post-disaster funding.

Kate is a licensed Structural Engineer and a recognized thought leader in the specialty of earthquake engineering. She is a Past President of the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California and a Housner Fellow of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.

Additionally, her experience also includes catastrophe modeling with past roles as the Product Manager for worldwide earthquake models at EQECAT (now CoreLogic) and a Co-Founder of the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) Foundation. Kate holds degrees from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, Stanford University School of Engineering, and the University of Minnesota.

Disaster risk is a daily reality for Kate, who lives less than 200 meters from the Hayward Fault. She is based out of Neptune’s Oakland office.

Jim Albert: Founder & Chairman of the Board

Jim co-founded Neptune in 2016 to change the way America buys flood insurance, using data analytics and extreme ease of use to make a critical insurance product more accessible to the market. Before Neptune, as Chief Information Officer of Bankers Insurance, Jim led the technology and data analytics team at this Florida-based insurer. He also managed and upgraded the technical platform, supporting the WYO flood product via the NFIP as well as a proof-of-concept private flood program. Before Bankers, Jim held roles as President of the national technology consulting firm Idea Integration, Managing Director of five brands in the UK and Europe, and many leadership roles with AT&T and Bell Labs.

Jim earned an electrical engineering degree at Vanderbilt University, and additional management, leadership, and financial education at Cornell University, Wharton, and Insead.

Jonathan Carlon: Member of the Board of Directors

Jonathan, as a board member, oversees Neptune’s financial modeling and corporate development activities.  Jon is the President of TRB Development, a diversified real estate development company. Previously, Jonathan served as Vice President and Chief of Staff for C1 Bank where he oversaw Investor Relations at the bank.  During his tenure Jonathan was involved in the IPO of the bank’s holding company, C1 Financial, on the NYSE, as well as the acquisition of C1 Financial by Bank of the Ozarks in July of 2016.

Jonathan received his MBA from The University of Tampa in 2013.
